The Department of Illinois of the Polish Legion of American Veterans recently organized its Annual Pulaski Day event, held at the Liberty Post in McHenry, Illinois. Members of the Polish Legion, along with supporters, gathered to pay tribute to the remarkable contributions of Casimir Pulaski, not only to the United States but also to the global Polish community.
In 1977, Illinois designated the first Monday in March as Casimir Pulaski Day, a day dedicated to honoring this war hero and recognizing the significant contributions of Polish Americans to both the state and the nation. This day is celebrated with fervor nationwide.
The event featured Kevin Barszcz, a Navy Veteran and the Director of Veteran Affairs for the City of Chicago, as the guest speaker. Mr. Barszcz shared his family’s journey from Poland to Chicago after the fall of Germany during WWII. Additionally, he outlined his vision for supporting veterans and furthering the mission of the Polish Legion of American Veterans.
Following the ceremony, attendees were treated to a delectable Polish lunch, fostering camaraderie and community spirit among all present.
